Hokkien Chinese borrowings in present-day Tagalog are subsumed under the category of direct loans or loanwords. Preliminary investigation reveals that there are one hundred and sixty three Hokkien Chinese loan-words in present-day Tagalog. These loanwords constitute the data for the phonological and the semantic analyses in this study.
